Default 5.9 limited transmission in limp mode

hey guys i have a 98 grand limited with the 5.9 and just had my tranny worked on yesterday and they told me i need a new speed output sensor so i said ok and they replaced it i just picked the jeep up today and the check engine light was still on and it wont shift past second. it gets stuck in second gear unless i slip the gear shift out of drive into neutral and then back in to drive then it will shift through the gears but it starts the whole process all over again as soon as i come to a stop. any info would be greatly appreciated thanks jason

Take it back and make them fix it.

before you take it back, unplug battery negative for 10 - 20 sec and that will reset the computer code. Some shops I come across have no idea of this.

I wouldn't erase any codes. I'd leave them so the shop could see them. It's their job to fix the problem, since they were payed for the job. JMO

I had a code for my O2 sensor, they said it might be caused by a cylinder misfire. I couldn't feel that on my 5.2L V8 but changed the plugs, cap and rotor anyway. The pass. side plugs had some deposits and bridging. After a few miles and re-starts, the code cleared itself. I have to use mid-grade or premium in my V8 or it spark knocks like crazy. Don't know if this could be your issues too but it's cheaper than a new O2 sensor. BTW I use Champion plugs.

Just wander of what O2 sensor have to do with transmition performance.
The engine my run rough from time to time and check engine light will come on, but that should not affect the transmition.

That's good. I'm glad it's running better.
