Default 4cyl or 6cyl?

My dealer said my Jeep has a 6cyl engine, but I swear... it sounds and feels like a 4cyl. How exactly can you tell the difference?

You have a grand cherokee, so its either 6 or 8 cylinder!

I counted 6 spark plug wires. 1 was "hidden". Interesting fact though... there is a 4cyl 1995 Grand Cherokee model! I just found out. My friend told me who's a mechanic.

Yeah. Putting in new head gasket and spark plugs today. Just need to buy a torque wrench. Never done it before... should be fun! It's currently taking around 15-20 seconds to get 0-60. The dealer said she needs a new fuel filter anyway.

There is no 4 cyl ZJ, unless the export ZJ models that are diesels are 4 cyl. There's a 4.0L I6, or the 5.2L V8...

Mechanics don't always know what they are talking about. 99.9% of the world don't know the differences between the Cherokee Models. Theres the old school FUll Sized ones, SJ, mid sized, XJs, Grands ZJ WJ WK ect and in Europe the Liberty is called a Cherokee. Like those people who call any 4x4 a Jeep.

So, technically 1993-1998 had a four cylinder option for exports, dont matter if its diesel still a 4cylinder

Their was no such thing as a 4cyl American ZJ. The export ZJ's had the option of a diesel engine, and it's pure speculation as to whether or not it's a 4cyl or not.

Regardless, that "mechanic" doesn't know what he's talking about.
