I have a 1996 XJ that had a stock 242 transfer case. I installed a rebuilt 242WJ over a year ago. Works great.

Only issue is the shift indicator lights do not read correctly and are out of sequence. Tried reversing the plug to the indicator. This reversed the way the lights operate but are still out of sequence.

The indicator is 2 wire and stock to the XJ. Perhaps an indicator from a WJ will work? I cannot locate one to try.
Last resort would be to 'rewire' the indicator lights to work properly.
I do not need the idiot light to know what range I'm in but would like to fix it and remove the black tape from over the always illuminated Part-Time light.

Question is, does a WJ with 242 have a 2 wire indicator? I am trying to figure out where the difference is, is it the indicator, the layout of lights on dash, or is it internal to the 242 and how it operates the indicator.

The wj is behind the 4.0 and the HD is behind the V8
