Default 2012 JGC with Trailer Tow Group, please help explain

Hi Jeep Cherokee Forum,

I'm new to the group and hoping you guys can help me. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2012 new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I'm working with someone who is getting me very aggressive pricing and the one we've located has everything I want, but also includes the "trailer tow group" option -AHT.

I wasn't looking for this option, but apparently it's part of the config on this particular Jeep. I asked if it could be removed, and the answer was that it could but that would cost additional.

I don't know what it is. Am I going to have a big hitch thing on the back of the SUV? I've tried searching pictures of jeeps with this option and I don't see any differences. The description on the Jeep website doesn't give me enough detail to understand what the hell I'm getting.

Can somebody explain in simple terms what this option includes? Pictures with and without would be super helpful. What are the pros... Any cons? Even cosmetically? I don't want to order this if I don't know exactly what I'm getting.

Please help.

Thanks.

Most likely a hitch, trailer plug and wiring, and a aux transmission cooler are part of the package. Your best bet would be to contact the dealer and ask them.

Is there a reason that DONT want that equipment package????
If it is a hitch I would personally want it, and if it includes a trans cooler that is never a bad thing to have on any vehicle. Just my $.02

Let me ask this again in a different way...

Will there be a thing sticking out of the back of my car with a ball on the end of it?

I've never hitched anything...

So telling me it'll be a hitch doesn't quite help. Nor does transcooler and or wiring comments. What does that even mean? I get i may have better options for towing... But that's the extent of my knowledge.

You wont have a "ball thing" sticking out the back unless you put one in the "reciever" that will come on your Jeep. The reciever looks like a square tunnel and for the most part not very noticable and not "sticking out". There also will be an electrical socket but again not very noticable. The transmission cooler will be mounted out of sight also and is a good thing even if you never plan on towing anything. As others have suggested go to any dealer and ask them to show you a 2012 Jeep with the towing package.

not sure which group it's in, but check here-

they come with a receiver hitch as mentioned above. no ball unless you
place into the receiver.

You will have a square and a wiring connector visible from the lower center of rear bumper. The non equipped jeeps have a smooth bumper. Whether you used it or not, I would think the trailer tow option would at least be a benefit in case you ever needed to tow something, or help you when its time to sell it. It can also be used as a recovery point if you keep the proper stuff to plug into the hitch on board.

without trailer tow

with trailer tow
