Default 2005 WK - 3.7L - To pull engine or in-frame?

Hey guys. This is my first 3.7L. I have access to a full shop, I have plenty of tools, there is nothing impeding me. I have found that one of the rocker arms has fallen off of cylinder 4 and I saw with an endoscope that one of the valves on cylinder six has smacked the piston, not sure how that happened. Anyway, I am in the process of pulling it apart right now. My question, is it easier to do a FULL head kit in-frame, or is it easier to go ahead and pull the motor to do it? Looks like it'd be fairly easy to pull engine, but I've never done 3.7L heads before.

Opinions welcomed, also if you know what happened to cylinder six, I'd be interested to know why the rocker arm is still in place and I have a bent valve.

Thanks guys.

It would be a lot easier to pull the engine to do your heads, unless you want to stand on your head to do the timing chains and other stuff. Besides, if that piston is damaged, you'd have to pull it anyway.

Got the front cover off and the oil pan is FULL of metal. I'm pulling the motor tomorrow and putting a new one in it. Stock, no hemi conversion or any nonsense like that.

Also the back of the intake was exploded out, and the injectors were so nasty I guarantee they weren't working properly.

OUCH!! IMHO the 4.7 isn't very reliable and the 3.7 is just a 4.7 with 2 less cylinders. That's why I looked until I found a jeep with a 4.0 in it. I'm old enough to be immune to power over reliability and the 4.0 has enough to be a good DD.

Good luck with your next 3.7.
