Default 2005 grand cherokee burning oil

2005 grand cherokee 150k miles. Not overheating, not leaking oil, no stains anywhere, engine sounds fine, plenty of power, but lots of white smoke from exhaust when accelerating or after idleing for several minutes, and oil is CONSTANTLY low, like more than a quart per week? Side note AC works and then doesnt, I dont think its related but if I knew what I was doing I wouldnt need to ask. Ive been looking around and my results are PCV valve, piston rings, or head gasket, am I missing anything? Thanks to all.

A moderator moved your thread to the correct forum for your Grand Cherokee. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/

150k seems really low to have a serious oil-burning problem, especially if it's the I6 4.0. If it is the I6, you may have a cracked head. I'm not sure if they resolved the casting defect, but the 00-01 XJ's had it.
Was the engine seriously abused?

Sorry I thought I posted the engine size. It is a 4.6 V8. By the by, yesterday out of the blue, everything on the dash stopped working. It works fine now, but yesterday on her way home my wife calls me and says nothing on the dash works, no lights, no gauges, nothing.

My 2009 4.7 GC was blowing smoke "sometimes" Turned out to be PCV. Cheap and easy fix. Guy on this forum clued me in to the fix. Thanks much

Thanks everyone, I have since checked under the radiator cap and found what looks like chocolate pudding around the opening, so Im pretty sure now that its the head gasket. Luckily, it seems to only be going one way. The oil when I changed the filter looks fine.

I too just had my head crack with a pop pop pop sound. Looks like a head gasket / top end overhaul job. :-( wish you luck

I agree, sounds like the head gasket is going. Better get to it before it gets more serious
