Default 2005 cherokee limited transmission problem

Hi
I have a 2005 jeep cherokee limited with 5.7 hemi. Two days ago I parked it and unpluged the battery and now the jeep does not want to move forward or reverse. It seems like the transmission just went dead. Any help or suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks for all of your help.

Yes I can push it arround when its in neutral, and acts like that in all gears, I put it in reverse and I push the gas and it just sits there. All gears except park act like neutral because I can move the jeep around.

No there is fluid in it. I checked under neeth the jeep today and I found some metal rod stuck between the shaft and the floor, just before the transfer case( the saft that comes from the transsmition), it seems like it was rubbing on the shaft because the rubber seal is torn, but other than that i don't see any major damage. Could this make it to go in some kind of protection mode or safe mode ? Is there such a thing?

Thanks
