Question 2004 WJ Hydraulic Fan & Cooling Issue

2004 WJ 4.7L overheating issues. I have the stupid hydraulic radiator fan. Right now, it has 2 speeds... turtle or tornado. I went to the JY and got a replacement solenoid - no change. When I pull the coolant sensor, it ramps up to tornado, plug it back in and it goes back down to turtle speed. It never changes as it gets warmer until the ECU tells it to go to tornado to prevent a meltdown. I follow MartinBuilt on YouTube and I'd love to do the conversion - but I don't have the time. And as I understand it, a replacement hydraulic fan assembly is somewhere in the $1k range.

Any ideas for a middle ground solution?

Background: replaced water pump and t-stat 8 months ago, no issues until a week ago. At hwy speed, temp is fine. only issue is at idle or acceleration when engine is loaded, and not enough air being pushed because I'm starting from a dead stop.
thanks everyone!
