I’ve had this WJ since 2015, the drivers side power seat will move front to back but I can’t use the features of up and down. When you press the up and down buttons, the motors make noise like they are stuck. I pulled the seat out today to see if i could see anything out of the ordinary but nothing looked wrong to me. It’s as if the pistons that the motors move are stuck in the down position. It wouldn’t be a big deal for me but i gave this Jeep to my 17 yr old son who just got his license and he needs to seat to raise up a little higher. I’m not very good with electrical stuff but like i said there is power going to the motors, they just don’t seem to move. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

My guess is that the white nylon gears are stripped a little in the motors.
Had that problem with the power seats in my '00 XJ and I believe them to be similar if not the same between the 2 Jeeps.

So assuming I am right there are a couple options. Motors from the boneyard but they could be bad also.
New motors from here or the repair kits from here:

Now I had tons of extra power seat parts. So I just swapped in motors that I checked and knew were good.
Getting the motors off is not that big a deal.
There is a pin that you need to pop out to release the motor from the frame and then you unscrew the threaded rod from the female part.
You will need to take the seat out and remove the seat from the power seat base.
Once you do that and give it a good eyeball you should be able to see what I am talking about.
Again this is assuming that I am right about the gears being stripped.

No problem. Hope I am right and it works out for you.
While you have it out might want to clean it up a bit.
Shot of my passenger side that I refreshed for my '00 XJ.

Not going to lie. Took some work.
But I think it was worth it. LOL.
