Well, before ordering a new/used seat track I thought I would see what the forum thinks of my issue.
2004 Grand Cherokee 6 way pwr seat only. Something on the track either broke or is about to. My mechanic looked at and said I need a new seat. He rigged it and stayed in place for 2 weeks and now it needs attention. Mechanic said he could try to weld the track to the seat? Does that make sense?
No guarantee it will work. I think it need a new track.
Thanks

JMHO, but don't go welding anything to the seat because then if it doesn't work, you throw out the whole seat.
The seat cushion assembly is bolted to the base track system with 4 nuts on studs. You can get the whole seat assembly at your local wrecking yard cheaper them buying a used one on-line. Usually what happens is one of the gears that drive the two front-to-back tracks comes loose in it's shaft and jams the tracks because one side is driving and the other isn't. All you have to do it realign the tracks and pin or weld the gear to the shaft. You can get to this by removing the seat from the jeep, then remove the cushion from it's base.
My local YouPull, YouSave sells complete seat assemblies, power or not, cloth, leather, doesn't matter for $15 each with a $2 core charge.

I wouldn't want to screw anything up... yes, doing it yourself is fun but you have to have the experience to do it... if it wasn't my DD (Daily Driver) I'd be open to modifying things like that, but if it's my DD then I'd just want to fix it and not screw around with it too much.

Oh, I hear you there. My WJ is my DD and my ONLY vehicle. It's gotta work. Because I use in in my business, I've had stuff done for me rather than lay it up, just because of the time involved. I do what I can.

True, I won't mess with my DD unless it's something simple. Like the other day, I replaced the front door speakers in my '02 WJ. (:

Clue in an old man. What is that mark supposed to mean? I've seen it a lot lately.
For instance, today I tried to change my steering damper. I got the moving end bolt off no sweat. My electric impact wrench nor an 18" long 1/2" ratchet would break loose the mounting bolt so I tied it up and took it to my mechanic. 20 seconds with a pneumatic impact wrench and it was off. SOAB!! He laughed at me, but didn't charge me either. I said "I'll give you $5 to put the new one on." he countered with "$10". "Deal!"

Thanks for feedback on the topic. The seat is still not fixed. Made a call to the local jerk n pull. They said $50 for the entire seat from any JGCL if I pull it. Sounds tempting. The condition of the seat from a salvaged one and the track and the pwr seat motor have me thinking to stay away and just get a new track.
