I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. Our fuel pump went out. Upon replacing the pump our gas gauge was stuck on Full. After replace it 2 more times .

The last one is now showing half empty. Can anyone help here. Whats causing this or being missed or what is wrong . Thank you very much.

The mechanic said the wires arent corroded. And 3 fuel pumps . Stilll having problems. We ran the car 100 miles before refueling like he said. Now the gauge went down to half after a very short time. We tried refilling but the tank is full i believe . And gauge says half. . when we replaced the fuel the gauge went up to full.. But went to down after a few light days of use maybe 10 miles total. We drove it 65 or 70 miles and it said half full. We tried filling and again it wont take gas and says full.
Also how many miles can a 20.5 gallon tank go before need refill in general .if i have to manually keep it.

 

The fuel pump assembly itself isn't the problem. The issue is the float arm is getting bent or hung up on something inside the tank when you install it. It's not moving freely.

You need to drop the tank again and check that the float arm isn't bent and can swing up and down without hitting the tank or the fuel pump housing. This is a common installation mistake.
