2004 Grand Cherokee loud fan noise when idle after engine heats up
I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee 4.7L, and lately I have noticed a loud fan noise coming from the front of the vehicle. This only seems to happen when I have been in heavy stop-and-go traffic, and only when stopped, with the engine idling. If I rev the engine, or start moving, the noise goes away.
I believe it is related to engine temperature. As it seems to not do it when the engine cools.
I checked coolant level, and reservoir was empty, so I added some antifreeze, but the problem still exists.
Where should I begin looking? Fan or fan clutch problems? Thermostat?
Thanks,
John

I have the same problem. Took me a few hours to get the radiator fan out. Sort of stuck on what to do next. Electric fan or replace clutch (if thats the bad part)? If I did do the electric fan route, would my power steering be affected and / or any check engine lights pop up?
