2003 Overland Climate Control Questions
I'm a new member and a new owner of a 2003 Overland. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago to replace my '97 GC ltd. Nice car with 78K and in just about perfect condition with Jeep service record going back to new.
The only thing causing me any concern is that the blower doesn't seem to put out a very high volume of air compared to my '97 or my Liberty.
I've read just about everything I can find and eliminated most of the common problems. Blend door work perfectly, fan works fine in all positions and draws about 16 amps at full speed.
The recirc door does not open and is throwing a code 52. However it is in the closed position.
What I don't know is if the seemingly low airflow is just a normal thing or not.
I will get the recirc door repaired but should I be looking at something else. I haven't pulled the blower but I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it isn't missing some fins or ???
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a cabin air filter on this rig? Could be full of debris and restricting the air flow, if it has a filter.

Thanks for the comment but there is no cabin air filter and looking into the louvers it's perfectly clean.
What I have noticed....and I don't know if it's related, is that about 30 seconds or so after shutting it off, something starts ratcheting(?) in the vicinity of the glove box for 10-15 seconds. Sounds sorta like the doors are trying to align.

I have a 2000 WJ and I would say that the airflow from the cabin vents is not good. At maximum, I can hear the fan/motor making lots of noise for little result. At 16A the blower motor is consuming over 200 watts. Personally I think the cause is poor design – with so much of the space behind the dash taken up by the AC ductwork, performance should be better.
To test my theory, take a test drive on another Jeep and see how the cabin airflow is.

WJ climate control problems
I have a 2003 WJ with AZC(automatic zonal control). The blend doors and Air inlet door actuators fail . I had to remove my dash and replace all doors and all four actuators to solve the same problem. Everything works fine now. By removing the dash, you must purge The AC system and disconnect the heater core. This lets you to remove the duct assembly to replace all the parts. If you do that send me a e-mail I will send a pic of what I did.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Since I have no interest in trying to pull a dash myself, I'll let the local dealer handle that problem if necessary. Hopefully a recirc door actuator doesn't need that level of work.
Before I do anything, I think it was a wise suggestion that I find another Jeep with climate control and check the airflow to ensure it's just not a normal thing. Compared to my '97 (with climate control) this one is really wimpy on airflow.
I'm also holding out hope that perhaps the blower wheel has an issue since the recirc door, while not opening is at least in the correct position.
