2002 Grand Cherokee overheats Wj 4.0L
Well my dad and I are working on a 02 grand cherokee for this guy because we are more mechanically inclined than he. The problem is that it over heats quick. The water pump was changed 2 years ago, thermostat changed yesturday, & a junkyard radiator that was flushed and tested installed yesturday. And it still over heats, so we took out the thermostat and ran without and it still overheats. The water pump has no play and makes no noises when you spin it with your hand. I was justwonering if anyone else has had any of hese problems or what else it could be?I think its the headgasket. The motor only has 77k on it also. I also wanted to know does this jeep just have an electric fan or is there supose to be a fan on the water pump? It was the owners idea to get junkyard parts not ours. ANY help would be great! thank you. SB.

since you say "quick" i would think probably a cracked head or head gasket but i wouldn't rule out the water pump,is there any coolant coming from the weep hole? It should have an e-fan but even if that is not working it really wouldn't over heat all that "quick". Did you use a junkyard t-stat?
.there was nothing coming from the weep hole. But we finally decided to take off the water pump since there was noting else we could do. Since the guy said it was replaced two years ago I didnt think i would be bad already. but it only took 10 mins to take it off and check and sure enough the plastic fins were broke and off the shaft. thank God for airtools they make working on cars so much easier. thanks for the reply bud.
