2001 wj front end noise
hello, I have an 01 WJ that makes a clunk noise when going over pot holes or bumps at low speeds, It has 175k miles and I just replaced the factory shocks with a set or Rancho's, it did help some but the problem still exists. I raised the front end and with both tires off the ground I did not have any play in the wheels top to bottom. I did notice that I have a torn boot on my passanger side CV joint and also at the front transfer case it looked to have a hole worn in it. I have not checked the U joint but did spin the front drive shaft while I was under it and it didnt have any play. The steering rods underneath have a shock like steering dampner on it and I can move it up and down about 3". is this suppose to move that much? I looked at all the bushings I could find under there but not sure how to know if they are bad. The steering rods do move pretty easily and I have a feeling that could be it but it appears they have ball joints on their connections, do they or is it some kind of a bushing that could be out. any help is appriciated.
thanks.
thanks.

well if its something to do with steering you would have play in the wheel, I would think it would be bad control arm bushings or maybe sway bar bushings making your noise, get a flashlight crawl under it and look at all your bushings for cracks in the rubber and whatnot, not that hard to tell if a bushing is bad
