Question 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee brakes hot/tach/missing problems

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the following problems:

Disc brakes are hot

Tachometer fluctuates slightly up and down

Occasional miss between 40-55 mph.

I will very much appreciate any ideas or advice or help please.

Discs will get hot when they are used.

Lol ^^^^ and yea how hot your brakes get depends on pads age of rotors if the caliper is sticking if the pads are rubbing or your overall pressure and speed

I believe the WJ had a recall on the factory calipers getting stuck, you need to change them to the akebone ones. Do some research on them

UPDATE:

Conditions of misfire continued to steadily worsen. Had three appointments at dealership, new spark plugs, fluids changed, and various other misc. Mechanics ultimately couldn't find cause and told me they suspected a transmission problem. Engine service light came on steady. Limped into a small rural auto repair where the mechanic installed a new throttle position sensor while I waited. Now my Jeep Grand Cherokee runs smooth again and the tach has calmed down! Cost for the sensor and one-half hour labor, about $110.

Thats not gonna have anything to do with your brakes.

I also have a hard time believing that 3 dealerships missed a TPS.

I have no problem believing 3 stealerships missed a TPS. If they get through their flash cards of inane troubleshooting without hitting the issue, they give up and take your money for the trouble. Shade tree mechanics FTW! lol

Back to your brakes issue, do your brakes ever smell hot, like burning carbon smell? It's very distinct, you would notice it. How's the fuel economy? If you brake hard does the truck pull to one side consistently? If your brakes are truly dragging, you would get symptoms like hot brake smell or horrible fuel economy to go along with the problem. Brakes that feel 'hot' to the touch may be relatively normal. I'd be more worried about a brake/wheel that was cool to the touch after driving for a while.

If you are getting hot brake smell or decreased fuel economy, or if your brakes haven't been replaced in a while, check them all for pad thickness and replace as necessary. Brakes are cheap to R&R, and are your number 1 bit of safety equipment.

I have a Cherokee WJ and recently had hot discs (smoking ). This after a garage fitted new pads!! So me and my son striped calipers ,put in new pads as ones they fitted cooked, cleaned caliper surfaces with disc grinder so there all good. greased with high melt point copper brake stuff, greased likewise caliper pins. checked pistons for sticking (all good) .Result all OK. This I believe is cos hub level water several times made em all rusty. This you can do yourself as you are not affecting hydralics. Remeber to support caliper when you remove it so no stress on Hoses.

I had three appointments with one dealer, not three dealers. Even though they sell Jeep, they have no computer hook-up for Jeep for service (don't know what they call it), so I suppose they looked where they could for the problem.

I think the brakes are okay. Perhaps I was a bit nervous over what I thought were hot brakes. Have had those looked at, and they are okay.
