Welcome to CF!

Sounds like you need to lubricate the slider pins. The calipers are mounted on 2 slider pins that allow the caliper to follow the disc as the pads wear. This puts brake pressure on both sides of the disc. If they stick, you can have less braking pressure and wear out just the inner pads.

These pins are in rubber boots on the back side of the caliper mounts. They need a special "brake grease" that doesn't melt with the heat involved. The rears are a 7mm Allen wrench, which isn't found in most sets. The fronts can be 2 types of brakes, the Teves or Akebono. The Teves take the 7mm, while the Akebono has a different type of pin that's better protected and uses a hex wrench.

A complete change of brake fluid is recommended every 35,000 to 50,000 miles depending on climate and hard usage, but brake fluid is "hygroscopic" meaning it absorbs water. This dissolved water is what rusts caliper pistons and other internal parts. The best way to bleed brakes is with a pressure bleeder, where the reservoir is pressurized from a tank and each bleeder is opened and allowed to run until the fluid is clear. The big thing is to not let the reservoir go dry because if you get air into the ABS pump, it's a PITA to get out.
