1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee troubles
1998 Jeep Grand Laredo - Been having trouble shifting gears for a while especially between 2nd & 3rd. About 2 months ago began dying at idle or at redlights. After lots of repairs seems to be shifting worse and now dies at idle or at lights, sputters & dies while driving, sometimes hard to crank, then doesn't won't stay cranked. Doesn't happen all of the time, but now more frequent. Replaced computer, crank sensor, upstream & downstream O2 , spark plugs & wires, ignition, ignition cap & rotor, cleaned throttle body & injectors. No codes. Also checked transmission and vacuum hoses, fuel pressure - says ok. No one can seem to figure this out. Non-related work done: oil leaks in rear & gasket, catalytic converter, AC switch.

When you have the hard start issue check to see if you are getting a spark at the spark plugs. Also, pull all your spark plugs and look at the tips. Are they firing normal, oilly, or covered in black soot? Did they check the vacuum system with a pump to ensure no leaks? Just a few easy and inexpensive checks.
On the transmission can only think of the speed sensor.
