1998 Grand Cherokee - Cranks - No Start
Like the title says ,,, crank - no start.
Daughter was driving home, drove over a speed numb ( unknown speed ) and engine died.
From what I can tell ......
Fuel is at least under some pressure in the rail - pressing schrader valve gets you squirted with fuel.
Appear to be a no spark issue.
What I have done so far .....
Changed CPS on bell housing - NO JOY
Changed Ignition Coil - NO JOY
Opened up distributor and found .....
Side to side play in shaft.
Corrosion on sensor under cap.
ORDERED - New complete distributor.
TRIED ---- Sensor out of new distributor in old still installed distributor. - NO JOY
QUESTION - is a little side play inside the distributor enough to cause loss of spark?
Is there anything else I can try????
FEAR: Timing chain jumped a tooth and engine out of time.
UNLRELATED OBSERVATION: ( maybe ) ---
Even though it will not start if I crank it long enough it builds up oil pressure.
Found wires pulled from O2 sensor in CAT and they may have at some point grounded themselves from flopping around.
YES the CEL light was on for O2 Sensor.

No ideas?
I guess that means I have checked all there is to check and it's time to look at engine timing.
