1997 Grand jeep cherokee Swap?
I don't know from experience in swapping grand cherokee motors, but I would start with the motors that fit to begin with... the 4.0 straight six, and the 5.7(?) 318 are probably the most common. If the 318 fits, I assume pretty much any common mopar small block V8 would drop in, as well... the 340/360 for example... and if the 4.0 fits, then I assume the 4 cyl. engine that Jeep used in their early cherokees would also drop in.
Remember, that just because the engine fits... doesn't mean you won't have a wiring nightmare ahead of you.
Anyway, I'm sure there are a lot more people on this forum more qualified to answer this question than myself, but I thought I'd donate my .02$ to the conversation.
