Default 1996 Grand Cherokee Ltd

I recently purchased a second hand 1996 Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0 Automatic (one test drive and I fell in love with it, and traded my old car). I've got a couple of quick questions however, as the local dealer is away until the end of this month.

Firstly, as I'm not the original owner and thus don't have the PIN that was assigned when first purchased, is it possible to get a second set of keys and fob for the vehicle? (I'd appreciate pointers on how to get such if so).

Secondly, after replacing the battery (old one died), I've noticed it's now a little temperamental when trying to turn the alarm/immobilizer on/off (usually takes several attempts to do either (though sporadically works first time - just to confuse me)). I was wondering if anyone could assist in identifying whatever the cause could be please?

as far as keys, just take your original key to home depot and have them cut a duplicate. its not a built in keyfob key so you dont have to go thru the dealer. you can buy key remotes on ebay, but you have to go to the dealer to have it programmed. ive heard of people doing it themselves but i dont know how

Until you receive another remote for the alarm/power door locks, you can activate the alarm simply by using the inside power door lock button to lock the doors when exciting the Jeep. Just remember not to leave the keys in the ignition when doing this. To de-activate the alarm, simply use the key to unlock the drivers door. I did this until I purchased a second key fob for my '97 ZJ.
As a test, try this while you have the key fob handy just in case. You can tell if the alarm is activated by the sentry light on the dash.
