I would pass on that one, you can find one without a transmission problem for that much. ZJ, XJ, TJ, WJ are the body codes for each model. An XJ is a 84-2001 Jeep Cherokee, a ZJ is a 93-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a WJ is a 99-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Welcome to CF. X2 on Bustedbacks advice.
You can't really tell whether a trans is in good working order if it's out of the vehicle. You can do a visual inspection, and remove the pan to check for any metal on the magnet in there, but it could have been cleaned already.

really no way to know if a trans is good without being able to drive it in a vehicle. i agree with ^^ i would pass on that one. i paid $2000 for mine, its a 95 with the v8, that red one is just a 6 cyl. 172k miles on mine and it had no mechanical problems whatsoever
