Default 1993 Grand Cherokee, high beams stuck on help!

Ok we have a 1993 grand Cherokee I6, we were just running errands in the bitter cold (-35) and we came back to the truck and it smelled like burning,.. Stinky. The high beams are now stuck on , wont dim or go out even with the truck shut off.

If I click the MFS the high beam indicator will only brighten and dim but not go off, this is a Canadian model with daytime running lights

Help this is my wifeys baby hauler

Disconnect the battery..

Sounds like you need a new ignition switch, I'd pull it out and inspect the connection. It's not all that uncommon for the XJ/ZJ's..

Well I started to dig into it and then I got visible smoke from above the driver side kick panel, I rushed and disconnected the battery to stop an electrical fire. I then went to try and find the source of the smoke to find nothing,... Everything looks ok. So I reconnected the battery and no smoke and the problem seems to be gone,...

Wtf?

The headlight switch is exactly where you saw the smoke... did you pull it and check for a problem? You should see evidence of softened/burned insulation or contacts burned.

I actually had the side dash trim off and the smoke seemed to have come from below and behind the head lamp switch.

For the record been fine since,...

And yes I do have coverage lol

Well small update : odor is still present, everything functions normally but now the daytime running lights no longer function. Headlamps work from the headlight switch, high beams work from the column switch, all functions normally except the day times aren't on and odor is still there.

I put it to the masses for your insights.

My original post I suggested ignition, I meant headlights..oops.

So, what is that? I have a later ZJ and not familiar with that piece.

Well there's your problem! LMAO!

Looks like the circuit board shorted on the bracket.
