Default 100k Miles - Transmission Flushing Question

My 2004 Grand Cherokee just turned 100k miles and I was wondering if I should have the automatic transmission fluid drained and the transmission flushed? There is no issues or problems - just trying to do proactive maintenance.

A few years back when my wife's Mitsubishi was around 100k a mechanic told me it was best not to do this as it would loosen up dirt and potentially cause problems and leaking.

If should have the fluid and filter changed and the transmission flushed, should I have it done at my regular mechanic, a transmission place like AAMCO or at the Jeep dealership??

Thanks,
Eric

How would a mechanic telling someone they cant do something make them any money??

Sounds like they are just trying to be honest. Problems can arrise on flushing a vehical with that many miles on it. If the fluid is clean and clear you will probably be ok. But a pan drop and filter would be a safe bet.

They do it for liability reasons. It's easier (and cheaper) to turn down an $80 service than to replace a transmission if it takes a dive after the flush.
