HI all, my neighbor has an 07 laredo in his driveway that they are ready to sell for scrap money.. 500.00. Belongs to his son. Needs ball joints, tires, and has one small hole in the rocker underneath. All easy stuff ive done dozens of times on my cherokees through the decades.
But it has one other problem that im not sure on. The story is he went for inspection and they said brakes , roters in back and all 4 ball joints. They had the brakes done and a few days later the heater core gushed out on the floor.. 2 garages here wont do the core one said maybe the head gasket also???? I dont understand the head gasket comment. I also dont get why when I opened the door the cabin smelled like it was on fire??? Do these 3.7 v6 motors have a head gasket history?? Why that toxic smell??

The thing has 175,00 on it. body is a solid 9 of 10. interior is decent, except for the smell. I just dont want a bad motor..I did run it for a few seconds and it sounds nice. quiet.. Any thoughts would be appreciated.. Jeff

 

Is this a Wrangler Laredo or a Grand Cherokee Laredo? If a Wrangler, my comments following apply. If it's a Grand Cherokee, then I would pass.

Pics would be a great help to provide input. That said, if it has a solid body and you can get it for $500, I'd do it. You can always throw another engine in it or possibly rebuild the current one. But if you don't want to deal with a bad motor I get it. It is very easy to pour money into Jeeps. Ask me how I know, lol.

I just tallied up my recent stack of receipts and since I bought my XJ last march I have dumped more than $5K into it just in parts! I'm so upside down on this thing I'll never be able to sell it!

 

It is the Grand Cherokee.. they known for probs?? Sorry about no pics. But the body is fine..

 

I don't know much about Grand Cherokees and any know problems. Hopefully someone will be along to help. I only asked because I would go for it if it was a Wrangler, but not a Grand Cherokee. Just me personally, but I want to go broke working on something I really like.

 

LOl, I hear ya.. I drive a 2ooo jeep cherokee sport and love it.. Before was a 92. 5 speed sport.

 

I bypassed the core and filled it with antifreeze. Ran it for 10 - 20 minutes with the burp funnel on it and all the hoses heated up nice. Seems to be good flow in there so I bought it. 500 , it needs ball joints and the heater core. set of front tires.
