Default 05 grand cherokee WK

at the end of january, my dad did some preventative maintenence on his hyundai elantra, he traded it in on an 05 grand cherokee laredo. base model, 3.7L V6 2WD, the only options it has are the towing package and roof rack. its been a great vehicle. about 2 weeks ago, he started having a problem with the A/C, it will only run on high speed, the 4th position. when you turn it down to the 3rd position or lower, it turns off completely. sometimes it will work on slower speed but very rarely. what could this be?

That is the fan speed resistor. You should be able to get a new one at your local auto parts store.
I have no idea where it is located on your jeep but it is probably near the blower fan behind the glove box.

Good luck

It may also be listed as 'blower motor resistor' if the parts counter guy looks at you funny. Should be $10 or less. Good luck!

thanks for the replys guys, my dad thought it couldnt be the resistor because he thought if the resistor was bad, none of the speeds would work. does anyone have the mopar part number for the fan speed resistor?

Actually the first 3 speeds go through the resistor, the last position is a direct connection.
