05 GC w/4.7L - Common Issues
Hi, I purchased my Jeep earlier this month; been doing some google reading but wanted your take on my problems
1) Clicking/tapping noise on start up and cold operation.
-Read this to be a cracked exhaust manifold. Is that the consensus? If so, how do dealers treat the problem? Mine is still under warranty (44k)
2) Clicking from steering column while turning.
-Sounds like plastic on plastic. Happens most when the turn signal is on and I am straightening the wheel back out. Any thoughts?
3) Engine lid piston/strut. Its rather weak, wont hold up the hood.
-Are these known to be weak?
Thanks, I am just wanting to know if the small little quirks I am experiencing are rather common.

1) No TSB's but Google turned up a lot of threads on jeep forum's.
2) http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_1900505.pdf
3) Found out OEM replacements are only $16. Dealer said they would take care of it as per their 30 day warranty, but its only $16.
Thanks for that website.

That's great to hear. We love our '04 WJ. Never have taken it off-road though, but w/the 4.7L V8 we've used it quite a bit for towing before getting the '97 ZJ w/ the 5.2L V8. The ZJ has more torque but rides, drives, and feels more like a truck than the WJ.
Post some pics of your Jeep when you can.

I just purchased a 05' Grand and of course the hood strut was huffed. Replaced by dealer. Engine has clicking sound on start/warm up (Maybe a exhaust gasket leak) hopefully not a cracked manifold. My left rear axle seal is leaking (just like my 2001 Cherokee Sport). Replaced by the dealer. She has 77,000 miles on her but the body has no dents and I've got tools to fix the rest. Needs new shocks and new rear brake rotors soon. I love it.
