Default 04 Grand Cherokee Alien Abduction

Love my 04 Grand Cherokee, but recently started having weird problems. First started during a freaky thunder storm. Suddenly, all the dials on the dash went haywire, moving up and down, lights started flashing, check engine, brake, ABS lights all came on, radio started flashing. I stopped, turned the car off, turned it back on and everything worked fine. Took it to my mechanic. Nothing. No codes. Battery New, connections fine, new fuel pump, battery charging fine, no loose wire. Drove off, and 2 weeks later, same thing. This time all the lights are flashing, the bells are dinging, and the car starts chugging forward. AC goes on and off. Back to the mechanic. Nothing wrong he says, works great. 2 weeks later, I drive to work, no problem. Get back in the car in the afternoon and suddenly the keyless remote won't work. Unlock the car, and it's completely dead as a doornail. No lights, no ignition, no nothing. Get out, count to ten, get back in, and she starts right up. Everything works, but the only thing is the clock is now 5 hours earlier that day. Back to the mechanic. Complete check and he prounounces it perfect -- the best car on the road. Been a week now since the last episode and I am just holding my breath. Help -- Is my Jeep being abudcted by aliens??? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Well My jeep have never done anything like that before. But if mine sits in traffic too long it will chug forward. Like its trying to take off and go. When on open road of not sitting too long its fine. As for the lights and stuff. I would throw a wild guess and say you have a ground wire thats not tight. You say it works fine. Then bam. Well when you take it to the shop its working fine. You just have not caught it working wrong in the shop. Check all wires. Remember its just a guess. I really dont know anything about jeeps. Just basic knowledge about the mechanic world. Hope it helps.

THis sounds typical of either a bad battery or a bad ground to the battery. Alot of WJ owners report similar happenings when the battery is about to die or their grounds are bad. CHeck them both carefully.

Wow great stuff, I would never had thought a bad battery would do all that. My wives 2001 GC, last week had the check engine light go on. I did what every american husband would do. Went down to the jeep dealer and got her a new 2008 with all the bells and whistles. Now I have my very own 2001 JEEP with a check engine light.
