Default 03 Grand Cherokee Trouble Code P0442

Recently added a 2003 Grand Cherokee to my fleet of Jeep vehicles and have a engine symbol light glowing orange. I have had the local autozone run the code and identified it as P0442, so I replaced the gas cap, cleared the code and 3 days later I have the same problem. Next Steps??? I am going to inspect the Evap Emission System as best I can in my garage, looking for hoses that may appear to be cracked or loose fitting however, does anyone have a best practice they could share which may help save time & energy? Thanks!

I thought this WAS the grand cherokee section! Anyhow, I have the same problem and I'll let you know when I find out about mine. I've been told to check out the canister purge solenoid valve. I don't know how to do that yet short of replacing it. With mine, anytime you disconnect the battery for any reason, the code disappears for a couple days then reappears. I just keep a pack of smokes in front of the light!

LOL I think the pack-o-smokes was the same was Jeep fixes recalls. Just slide it over what ever light was on. Anyways, Evap systems suck. Did you replace the cap with an OE fuel cap? Jeep has a way of being picky on these parts. Do a full visual inspection for hair line cracks in the filler neck more so near any vent lines off the neck to tank. I have used "smokers" before to find evap leaks that were not visable too. Local garages can perform this service for about 45-60.00 but well worth it.
