Default 03 GC stuck in 2wd?

Finally got to the last major issue with this new to me Grand Cherokee.
Previous owner never used 4wd. Now she's locked pretty hard in 2wd. Sounds like the hot ticket will be to get under it and disconnect the shift linkage and see which end is hung up. Guessing some penetrating on the shifter end will be the fix. My question is, does the tcase have detented positions for the different positions. Hoping I can verify the tcase is ok by moving it by hand while disconnected from the shifter.

The t/case shifts by cable and yes, it has internal detents. The cable is probably set up, but is easy to replace. I notice you have the 4.0 so you must have the np242, correct? It's probably the best combo to have in my opinion. Pay close attention to servicing the rear diff because in 2wd, it gets the most wear. Mine is just now starting to whine a tiny bit at high speed, but it's got 220K miles on it.

Popped the cable off the t case last night and the cable moved free from the shifter down. took a channel locks to the t case shifter arm and got it moving again. Reattached the cable and now it seems to shift fine. Got a new cable but the lower cable clip looks a bit sketchy so I'll find a fresh clip before I install the new cable. Looks like an easy enough job. Thought the body flange would be a pain under the dash but it's easily accessible right at the edge of the carpet on the tunnel.

Also fixed an issue with the center console lights Radio to Shifter. These bad boys are tagged on with the PARKING LIGHT fuse #6 replaced that fuse and all lights as it should! Too bad I couldn't find that little trick on the fuse list.
