01 grand engine swap
i have a 01 grand 2wd with 4.0 engine has a tick, pulled the engine out and grabbed one out of a 00 cherokee 4wd and the engine mounts wouldnt swap. was told i can take the frame mounts out of the cherokee and put them in the grand and then the engine would bolt up. or would it be better to just rebuild the 01 engine and use the 2000 head since the head is better on the 2000 model
well i didnt want to be driving it to work and the motor go out plus they had to get it hot and it was in the bottom end of the engine. the jeep is in perfect shape after rebuilding the engine i wont even have 1300 in everything
I wouldn't have pulled it for a tick. Jeeps in general have a slight tick due to an oiling part......... not sure what it's called but you can put your finger on it and feel the tick. It's totally common and not a bad thing.

The blocks are the same between the two, I don't see how the engine would not just slide into place like the original. Could you show us some pics of both engines?

04+ has the better 0331 cyl head. Your replacement is identical to the original.
The WJ blocks are cast different, an XJ engine does not work.
You need another WJ engine or a late TJ engine to swap in.
The "tick" alot of WJ owners talk about usually are the evap cannister, or a broken piston skirt.

Not the valves........... it's a smaller little square block near the side of the engine. It ticks like a heartbeat.......... you can put your finger on it and feel it.
I know what valves are.
