'01 Grand Cherokee Problems
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Recently I've been experiencing some trouble with it. First off, the menu will alert me that a door is open which prevents me from rolling up/down any windows and leaves the interior lights on. I know that all doors are shut and secure, but it usually requires parking the car or turning it off to activate the windows. Secondly, my brake lights are also acting sketchy. A few weeks ago the only brake light working was the top brake light, now it changes, but there is always at least one brake light that isn't working. We checked the fuses and bulbs, doesn't seem to be either if those. Finally, this is a problem that is occurring tonight, even when my jeep is off, my lights will come on and stay on for about a minute before turning off. Then in about 15-30 mins they'll come on again.
Sorry, but I haven't even taken an auto mechanics class. Bare with me.

Welcome to CF and the heartache of owning a Jeep! BTW, did you feed the gremlins after midnight? LOL.
A little info. The interior light switches on your WJ are in the door latches, not striker switches on the door frame like every other vehicle in the history of man had. Because they are in the door wiring, they are susceptible to breaks in the wires that go from the body to the doors. My guess is you've got a grounding problem in one of the doors. You can turn off the interior lights when you park it by turning the dimmer switch for the dash lights all the way down until it clicks. This trick will save your battery overnight. The window problem may be related, IDK.
As far as the brakelight problem is concerned, I haven't a clue. There are so many connectors in the tailight harness that it takes an electrical engineer to figure it out. My only thought is if the cyclops (high brakelight) light is working, your problem is in the rear harness, again possibly grounds.

Take a look at your tail lights. A lot of the Grand Cherokees have contacts on the bulb sockets that get power from the light housing rather than the usual wires running to the individual sockets. You can change out the tail lights for ones that do away with the stupid contacts and have wires. If I recall, the tail lights can be had for around $100 online/pair. These do away with a lot of the tail light woes. Bad contacts/grounds drive a computer controlled car nuts.
Good Luck,
Doug
