Default 01 GC l6 4.0 4x4 Question

Just a quick question, when shifting into 4x4 is the shifter suppose to lock into place? When I say lock in I mean the way it locks into 2wd, it locks the lever and stays in place and isn't as easy to move around. No grinds or anything, my 4x4 works I was just wondering if it's allowed to move a tiny bit or if the cable needs adjusted or something?

Thanks

My TC shifter doesn't lock in place in any gear. 2WD is up against the end travel of the shifter, but you can pull it out anytime. 4WD part time is when the light comes on and it's hard to know if it's centered in the gear or not. 4WD full time is up against the neutral gate stop, but you can move it out at any time. You have to press down on the shifter to get into neutral or low range.

Once in a while if I'm not serious enough about shifting back into 2WD, the shifter will pop out of 2WD after a while. I've had it pop out of full time once or twice, but it goes into part time then.

You can see from my signature I own a '00 WJ 4.0.
