That I am sure of too. One thing I am interested in is sleeping in it. What I mean is that I have a soft suspension and someone rolling over or getting in and out to pee might give the tent the motion of the ocean. Have you thought about jacks for the XJ to stabilize it?

No because this is going to be a solo trip for me, good question though. Might set it up this evening and see how much it moves, the wife hasn't seen it out yet

Little xj made another cross country trip with no major issues, we ran 4 mountain passes and Hells revenge in Moab... Trip ended with a trip to the top of the world... Just shy of 4,000 miles and a lot of memories,

Very cool Jon. It is getting a good workout. Colorado is on my bucket list. Wish we still had the family mining property there. It would be a real excuse to visit it

I really enjoyed sleeping in the tent, it was comfortable an big.. Problem was taking the cover on and off high on the jeep was a lot of climbing and stretching...and with a big head wind on the interstate it made the xj struggle and run warm.... This is a good idea on a trailer or low in the bed of a truck, but not on top of a jeep.. it didn't move around much that I noticed while in it... Hope that helps you 4.3 xj....

Hated the tent on top of the xj so I built a RTT trailer to put it on, almost there. Hoping to finish it up in the morning and take it to Rocktoberfest this weekend...

Why did you not like the tent on top Jon? I only ask because I have daydreams of doing that

It's easy to flip open like advertised but getting the cover off and on is no fun...It's hard to level the jeep up with rocks to get the tent level, the trailer has jacks on each corner. When your done with it you have to unbolt, wrestle it off the top of the jeep and find a place to store it.. On a trailer I can just back in the yard and unhook and keep all my camping gear in the trailer.. Storing it was probably the biggest reason I have very little room in my small house/garage...

I also picked up another project the other day, my next big trip will be Rt 66 from end to end. I wanted a cadillac to do this trip in so I found this low miles one that a guy was building a rat rod out of.... Not going to change much just a lot of maintenance and getting the A/C working...

Little trailers done for now, i still need to put exterior lighting and a battery/inverter setup in it but that can wait.... Loaded and heading to Rocktoberfest for a shakedown...

Yes, I have noticed the same drawbacks, even though I have not installed one. If I go that route, I think I will spend a little extra and get the ikamper hard shell tent. I am thinking of options for leveling the Jeep
