I bought a Jeep.
1999 Cherokee Classic with 4 doors, in Forest Green Pearlcoat.
Straight and NO, and ZERO rust. IN THE SALT BELT.
Bought it for $1000.
The purpose of this build would be cleaning it up, keeping it clean and drive it around.
Maybe load it with some more factory options etc.
Why?
I ll be having another kid in July and I need a something that I can drive & haul the kids around that's not a total ****box.

4 liters with AW4 and NP231 followed by a Dana 30 & Chrysler 8.25. Bone stock.
The tentative plan is to do all maintenance stuff first and have it inspected. (Appointment tomorrow).
I plundered and pillaged the ZJ in my driveway for all the parts I may need or may not need for this Cherokee.
What I kept from the ZJ?
Fuel tank & pump (supposedly 23-25 gallons)
Rear disc brake set up & prop valve
NP242 & driveshafts
Front axle shafts & hub bearings
Front seats
Misc small stuff.

What I bought so far
2000 overhead console, harness, bracket, and temp sensor.
Factory Glass OEM fog lights with pigtails. (Will concert it to leds)
New Group 34 AGM battery
784 injectors
A set of older but still thick tread Goodyear RT/S to hold me over until I buy a set of good all terrain tires
Amazon 5x7 LED headlights (so far so good)
I'm buying black headliner material soon. Gotta wait until I install the OHC before I recover the headliner board. Will do the visors to match
I have a box full of led cubes, pods, etc. I ll grab two of them and mount on the bumper. But I was thinking maybe 4" round leds May look better.

The rear brake line was rusty and leaking.
I bought a set of stainless steel brake tubing (pre-formed) on eBay for $99 shipped. It replaces EVERY single hard line on the XJ. Which is nice.
But for now I replaced only the front to rear hard line. I will replace the rear when I do the ZJ discs.
I still need to do research on that, because I'm not sure which emergency cables to use.
I also traded my very last transmission mount for Chris Snow's relay center.

This is the only picture that was shown on the ad.
Attachment 404161
Brought it home
The next day. I took better pictures.
It had the front seats with adjustable head rests. I never had seen it before, must be a classic thing eh? Well too bad it's going away in favor for the ZJ seats.

So... it failed the state inspection. (Technically it passed but they wouldn't give me the stickers because the bulb for the CEL is burnt out, along with the license plate light).
Ok no problem. I thought it was just a matter of swapping bulbs.
The CEL must have gotten broken when I took the cluster out to convert to red leds and I did remove the CEL holder to check if bulb is ok. It was ok so I put it back in.
Now the license light is a whole nother matter.
The pigtails was burned out (plastic melted a little at where it held the bulb). So I replaced that part. Still no power. Investigated the part where it went through the rubber boot. No damages. So I took the trim out and discovered that at a point, for unknown reason, somebody cut the harness and then wrapped the copper together & taped it up.
I decided to pull the whole harness out and take the one from my other XJ. Voila. The license light works. (I later eventually pulled another clean harness from a parts Jeep in town so I can put it back on the other xj).
I also pulled the trailer wiring pigtail from my other xj and installed it on the green one because I ll want to find a hitch.
On that note, anybody got any hitch for sale?
The inspection garage stickered the Jeep and I celebrated by having them tint the front windows.
I gotta do something about the tail lights.....
I also ordered the headliner material. Deep charcoal gray.
I'm thinking about getting this set of floor mats. Anybody got experience with those?
I got more pictures that I gotta add in this thread later.
