Frank, I was not aware of it [Cummins 4BT 3.9L]. I came across this eng. and Jeep and had always wanted to do this, so I jumped right in. I read the info from Novak and went ahead with it. I said earlier that I have a very cleaver fabricator, and I think with the information out there and your advice how can I go wrong. I think I can learn from your hard work and hopefully expand on it.

I tried to find how much of a lift you have but could not find it. Our plan is to lower, rework if needed, the Novak mounts to enable us to clear the hood with the accessories installed. Once the engine is set then deal with the headers and all else.

You stated the Jeep radiator is sufficient to handle the heat with elect. fans. I remember you saying you found hoses that had the correct angles or close enough to work. Could you have reworked the connections on the radiator to get a cleaner approach.

I understood you to say the stock fuel pump delivers 40psi and you need 60 psi.

We plan on setting the engine next week and I'll let you know the outcome.
Dennis

I'm at 5.5-6"

Do not attempt to lower the engine, you'll create more header and oil pan clearance issues as it is. If you want a stock hood height you're going to have to run a car intake....and that means car accessories on the front of the motor as well.

Reworking the radiator wasn't an option since tig welding costs a small fortune if you want it done right. Do yourself a huge favor and buy the Novak radiator.

I have a stock Chevy Tahoe fuel pump in my tank.

rock on.. any ls series motor is awesome. I have a 6.0l in my work van and I dont cut it any slack. when my 4.0 gets tired it will get an ls motor. they are designed to run with little to no maintenance. im pushing 200,000k mi on my 04 3500 6.0l and it doesnt use a drop of oil or make any strange noise. and its never had a tune up or induction cleaning. it gets an oil change ever 6mo avg 10k+ mi between oil changes, the only thing thats happened to it is the water pump went out at 160k and its had a starter put in it. thats it. im still running the oe fuel pump. LS motors are awesome hands down

We had to re locate the ac compressor, tap into the top of the water pump to put a line to another line it's kinda like a vent or something! Forget exactly but it you don't have it hooked up the engine will blow up! And the ps pump needed a custom bracket made it was actually off a caddy cts we put it on it's own belt! Bad ***!!!

Were moving along. Removed engine along with trans., and transfer case. All 3 pcs. came out as one assembly. Will remove the rest of the unneeded parts and then pressure wash the engine bay, should cleanup well.

The motor mounts arrived almost before I ordered them.

Next will fit Novak mount and position the 4.8 motor. I've been told other wise but plan to play around with the mounts and see if we can't get the engine a little lower.

I'm also planning on dropping the cross member the radiator sets on by a 1"-2'' to gain additional capacity.

Found this bumper for a XJ in a add, for $200. Was used in a photo shoot 12 years ago, and has been stored since. Made out of polished aluminium.
Should I powder coat it a crinkled black or leave it as is.

Well what do you like? And unless your rig has black door handles I'd leave it. But it would be less maintenance. My boss had an ali-arc on his old truck and the kid who used to work with always had to polish it.

i would throw it away..... it's kinda dated big chunky and ugly... looks like it would go on a 79 ford on 44'' boggers with 10 kc daylighters and a pile of shocks.... not to mention as aluminum its pure show.. my $0.02 sorry i normally don't flame but thats just awful... if you go that route polish it and buy a bunch of chrome party favors for your jeep to match

Aluminum can be extremely strong if it's fabricated well. Also don't forget aluminum comes in many different alloys.
