V-8 swap 89 2Dr. 4x4
I posted originally in the wrong forum.
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/DSCN0543.jpg I just purchased a 89 2 door for my project. It's in excellent shape with no rust. I have a 02 4.8 Chevy. engine lined up, along with a 4L60 and trans. case. Will use a 8.8 373 Ford rear end. I have supper fabricator to help me with the project. I feel I have that part under some control. I'm looking forward to getting your advice, and thinking to help me along. I belong to the Corvette forum and have contributed and gained information from knowledgeable people. Thank you all in advance for any advice you may have. I took the following Pics. tonight after we picked the engine and rear end up. Old engine http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/DSCN0540.jpg New Engine http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/DSCN0546.jpg 8.8 rear end. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/DSCN0545.jpg Dennis |
Just curious why some one would replace one of the most reliable engines ever built for something that is not so much??????
If you must this page will help. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/xj_swap.htm |
Your curiosity as to why informs me your knowledge on the subject deserves a answer that hopefully will inform you.
Better gas mileage, 18-23 mpg originally, I'm planning on at least a 25% improvement. the 02 4.8 engine weighs less, more power and torque, environmentally cleaner, and a superior engine in every way. The engine was tired and would have cost as much as I paid for the new engine [$ 500.00]. Since I don't work, and came from a background that afforded me the confidence that I could do anything I put my mind to, why not. I am familiar with Novak and purchased his motor mounts recently. Thank you for your interest. Dennis |
i was wondering why a 4.8 not a 5.3... they run the same $$$$ for the most part.. as for reliable.. i love my 4.0s but i see those ls engines all the time and they NEVER have mechanical failures... they are the standard to which all new engines are measured to imho... 200k is not uncommon

I would say absolutely if you have the knowledge and will power to do it then why not! And all though I love the 4.0's the 4.8's are amazing and are capable of more hp..are you sure it will fit without any major problems?
|
Because more is better. Lots of ppl do te v-8 swap, but I agree I would have done the 5.3, or to be honest the 6.0. :yes:

wanna ship me the pressure bottle and a few other parts lol!

Thank you both Serious of Road and Brookhart, the Naxja thread is great. I keep re. reading it to get all the information. If I had done this much in school I would have been an A student.
Is Frank Z still around, he covered everything. I do know my 4.8 intake is a little higher. Several have mentioned the use of a 5.3, the engine is I understand is good, but heaver and I think Iron heads, and doesn't get as good mpg. The HP diff is almost the same as is the torque. $500.00 was a big reason. I may have missed this but maybe it's assumed he lifted the truck. I'm looking at raising it enough to clear. 2"-4" lift should do it, if he did the same, or more, I've got some work to do. This is why a forum is so valuable, especially once you get rid of the mentally challenged, and the negative individuals. In 04 I bought a junk yard dog Corvette, it was in boxes and I was able to to make it into a great project and bring it to a successful conclusion. I shared my experiences with others to help, which included a T-5 speed from a late model Trans Am. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...vettePics2.jpg Dennis |
SeriousOffroad = FrankZ

Mind=blown lol
|
seems like alot of work...why not do like a 4bt or something?
|
Have you looked at the weight of a 4bt?
Dropping a Vortec motor in is simple if you do your homework and don't half-*** it. And it can easily pass emissions with a little extra effort. |
I'm in love. This will be the next step when I get tired of the small block.
