How did the proportioning valve work out after you installed it? I just did a TSM rear disc conversion on mine and I was wondering if I'd have to change that out too.

It worked out great for me. Al I did was change the spring inside the valve. That way I didnt have to mess with undoing all them damn brake lines. I dont know what calipers your kit used... but since I used ZJ discs I figured I couldnt go wrong anyways. Before I couldnt get my rear brakes to lock up, after the swap I could.

Thats's some good info. Mine uses GM calipers from a late 70's to early 80's El Camino, Monte Carlo or Cutlass. Not sure the size difference between yours and mind but I'll keep your spring choice in mine after my shake down run in a few weeks.

How did that D44 disc brake swap go. I just got the funds up to start the one on my D44 that I picked up. I have the capiliers, rotors, and backing plates off an 8.8 explorer. I'm going to the jeep dealer today to pick up the rubicon spacers. Anything I should be a where of while doing the swap? Also what did you do for brakes?

Not to hi-jack this thread in response but it went really simple. It was cake. I bought the brackets from www.TSMMFG.com and they bolted right up. I had to put the rotors on the lathe and shave about a 1/4 inch off them as they rubbed the inside of my 15" cragar soft 8 rims but once that was done.... it was butter. It was really a bolt on kit. The only thing that I welded on was the brackets on each side where the brake bose connects to the brake line.

Thanks for the insite, but from the way it sounds you used custom brackets. I'm using 8.8 parts and adapting them to the D44. I mainly interested in problems that were incured during that process. Mainly with the rubicon spacer plate. Some people talk about making there on and using teraflexs custom spacers but it cost a little more money and the spacers and mouting plate are not one solid piece like the rubicon plate.

Check out the brackets fromTSM or Blue Tourch Fab Works. They are weld on brackets that will save you the headache of making your own.

That cost money... this is cheap and simple, I pulled all the disc brake parts off the explorer when I got my D44 and said those were the brakes since the drums werent on the 44. I also just bought the retainer plates today from jeep. So I should have all the parts now except for the bearings and seals for assembly wise. I also need some new pads but that's a straight forward replacement.

The explorer calipers are totally different, then what I used. I used disc brakes off of a ZJ. I too thought the 8.8 ones would work.. but it was more work then it was worth to me. If you had a set of Crown vic brakes... then all you do is redrill a couple of holes.

Also if you plan on re-using your stock shafts you are going to need more then just the backing plates. You will also need a new bearing retainer, possibly bearing and more then likely axle seal. The bearing and bearing and bearing retainer all have to be pressed on. Thats one of the reasons why I went with Alloy USA kit in the rear. You get all the forementioned parts plus new lug nuts and axle studs. One I got mine (june 08) it was 275 shipped to my door.

As for e-brakes.. I use a line lock, but terra flex sells longer e-brake cables for the discswaps in the rear.
