The Turd
This is a rig I recieved in a trade for some axles I had. It started out as an 87 4 dr with a ba/10 trans and a np231 t-case. D35 rear and d30 up front. It had a 4.5" RC lift on it when I got it.
Here is what it looked like when I got it home
It had a poo pipe cage that was poorly designed
Shortly after I got it.. I decided to change the way it looked
I drove it around like that for a yr while I saved money to build it
here was the start
Then I had to do some shopping It has alloy shafts front and rear as well as lock rights
Then I had the windshield pulled so A cage could get installed. I didnt do the work myself. I paid Ground Pounder Fab of Newport News VA to do the work. Eddie is a great guy and a blast to wheel with.
Junkyard scoore thanks to another buddy named jeff... a XJ d44
also got a non disco front axle
I will post more of this build after I get back tonight

Here you can see a pic of the A,B,C pillar in place
While tha cage was out being fabbed... I did some more shopping
I ordered the 3 link Rock Krawler Kit. I got it through Motionoffroad. Adam is an excellent person to deal with
Here you can see some of the "X" bracing coming together
here is a pic of the dash bar
Here you can see the seat frames getting built
Here is a pic of the seats in place... they are some import racer style seats

Here is a pic of the C pillar tie in.
Her is a pic of the harness bar. Eddie drilled and sleeved it so I would have a good mounting point.
Here you can see Eddie ran the tubing all the way to the back with a lower hoop. It ties in right to the rear floor
Kinda a dark pic... but you can see how the seats and everything looks
Getting ready to install the 3 link set up. This kit wasnt designed to fit the Ba/10 trans so some mods had to be made to the x member to make it work. Follow along
3link mount in place
This is the Ba/10 x member. they are different from an Ax15/aw4 x-member. Had to cut the ends off
Here you can see the spare x-member in relation to where the Ba10 woulld sit. Hence the reason why this kit is NOT for 87 XJ/MJ
I ended up plating the top and bottom with 1/4 plate. I didnt plan on keeping this ba/10, so it really didnt matter. I also didnt like the fact that there was only 4 bolts going to be holding the bracket in place.. so I welded it to the frame
Kinda dark Pic... But here you can see the d44 in position. I was waiting on my disc brake backing plates and retainers to come back from the machine shop.
I used TJ rubicon axle retainers. By doing this I elimanated the need to have a spacer machined.
Here you can see the mock up of the retainer plate and disc brake bracking plate. I had to have the insdie diameter of the backing plate open up a 1/16 of an inch so the oil seal would pass through
Didnt really take any pics of the front end install. Bascially I ended up putting some home made skids on the LCA mounts. The only Kinda tricky thing was install the drivers side upper Joint. Basically you drill and tap a hole and intall.
These were the parts I had left after Doing the install.
It took 3 weeks of me working on it after work, and with the delays I had. This is the first time back on all 4
I decided the rear X brace made a perfect spare mounting location.
Since I did a rear disc conversion, and I didnt think the brakes were all that great I went to the junkyard and pulled a ZJ prop valve so I could remove the spring and install in my prop valve.

Looks good. Are you going to close the rear of it to make it weather tight?
One more question. What kinda symptoms made you switch the spring and ball in your proportioning valve.

The reason why I changed it was to cure a weak peddle I was feeling. It did fix the problem.

All told I spent 4 grand building it. That includes the price of the rig, but you have to keep in mind I cam across deals and did a lot of horse traiding to get it to that price
The biggest expense was the roll cage, then came the axle stuff. Keep in mind I have alloy shafts front and rear, and lockrights front and rear. Then the suspension came in. I all ready had the springs and stuff so.. didnt have to buy that stuff.
Future plans are to do an open cooling system and a AX15 swap. All ready have an external slave one... Just trying to accumalate the money for a new flywheel and clutch. When this happens I will flat belly skid the bottom. I just acquired a set of used 32x9.5 TSL's with 90% tread for a deal
8UP..
I had my cage built in Newport News, but I live in Middlesex.. about an hour from there.
