When I bought this XJ I thought I was going to use it as the parts truck for my '88. I changed my mind and sold the 88 because the 93 was in better shape and only needed an ECU and exaust to be in better shape...
I went kinda nuts at the local Bone-Yards, I kept finding things that I didn't need but would like to have on my Jeep. This got me thinking that this may no longer be a Cheap Jeep...
In the computer world we talk Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) a lot. I decided to brave it and see just what this Jeep actually has cost me.
The purchase price and needed items to make it reliable only total out to be $433. (ECU, Muffler, Cat, Heater Parts, Starter)
The want items added only ran me an extra $294. (Skid Plate, Recovery Points front and rear, Pivoting Wing Windows, Trailor Harness, Rear Wiper, Wood Grain dash, Lower Dash with vents, Center Console, OH Console, Lighted Vanity Visors, Roof Mount Speaker Bar)
Not sure if I should count the Stereo System, some of it was from the other rig and it will not go with the Jeep if I ever get rid of it, $438
$1165 seemed like a shocking price to me! I have to keep in mind that in this area, anything advertised for under $1300 is a total POS! If I concider the $975 I got from the '88 that was one of those POS I am only into this for $190... The 88 cost me $500, five years ago, so maybe I should add that back in???
All in All, I guess that I am very happy with the outlay and what I have as a good DD rig to build upon and a great winter rig to get me to the slopes...
I have picked over the Bone-Yards for wanted items so now it's time to wait till spring so I can throw some new paint on it, detail the inside and see where it goes from there...
Thanks to all who helped with my posts and getting me to the point where I am very happy with the new toy!
