You can also measure the ID on your rear u-bolts to determine the rear axle. The 3" ID u-bolts are for the Chrysler 8.25 rear end. The Dana u-bolts are 2 3/4" ID.

Who sold you the lift? I did! Lol. Take a pic of your diff cover and guarantee more than 90% of us can tell you the axle. Also
Check this site, tells you all you need to know

http://jeephorizons.com/tech/xjstockspecs.html

Same year as mine, looking at a Dana 30 in the front, 8.25 in the rear ( great axle )

No problem man, well worth it. Beautiful weather today made it all the better. Let me know if you need ANY help. Always out to help the fellow jeeper, we were all there once. I live the boring life lately so my weekends are always free and I work 7-3:45 M-F.

Sorry on the hold up with the lift guys. I Don't want to attempt it on my own. It is my DD And it would blow if something went wrong. Hopefully soon I will get some help.

Thanks for your service. Check out naxja.org, or militaryjeepers.com, I found that both those sites have some pretty active local chapters with good guys that will probably help you out with your install. I personally just watched a few videos of lift installs and realized that it really isn't too bad and did the lift install myself, but an extra hand is always nice.

And as far as painting the axles, the right way to do it is to pull the axle run a wire wheel over the whole thing, then prime it, and paint it with some por-15 type paint... all I did though was clean it off with a pressure washer, some degreaser and and spray paint it with this "roll bar" paint I got at an auto shop.

Thanks for that info. Thanks for your service as well. So I was looking at the xj today and found some rust on the edges of the lower doors and behind the bumber endcaps. Any advice on how to tackle this without trimming anything

So today I put on some tinted window rain vents. Looks good. Will post pics soon. I also pulled up the carpet in the front area and found the worst rust! Has anyone delt with this?

Did a few things to the XJ during my days off.

Put on some tinted rain vents since I live in Washington

I decided to bed line my rocker panels and front and rear bumber ends. I kept the stock side molding because I like the way it looks.

Taped off and scuffed the paint.

Here is the finished product
