I figured it out!
So lets start with the LS build: Got an LS3 intake manifold with fuel rail off facebook Attachment 407301 Got a Holley Sniper EFI for christmas! Thanks mom Attachment 407302 Picked up some coil packs off amazon Attachment 407303 Picked up some MSD wires for the coil packs Attachment 407304 And also grabbed a $35 ARB engine pulley bolt Attachment 407305 Which required more torque that I could measure so I picked up a new torque wrench Attachment 407306 et voila! Attachment 407307 Attachment 407308 Then picked up some stands for the move and picked up a harbor freight engine hoist to get it up onto the uhaul Attachment 407309 Attachment 407310 |

Next, lets update everything else:
Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, my $100 amazon header **** the bed. The O2 bung broke off Attachment 407269 Attachment 407270 Attachment 407271 So I went ahead and picked up a new one from Banks! Attachment 407272 Attachment 407273 Attachment 407274 Attachment 407275 Attachment 407276 Definitely superior build quality. I would hope so with a $500 difference Attachment 407277 Came with a gasket and hardware Attachment 407278 Attachment 407279 And for 7 hours I removed the old one and installed the new one. Easier the second time around, but still not easy Attachment 407280 Attachment 407281 Attachment 407282 Attachment 407283 Removed the windshield and front window tint Attachment 407284 Attachment 407285 Addressed the pinion angle with a 4 degree shim. This is before the shim. Seems I dont have an after picture, but its better Attachment 407286 Attachment 407287 Attachment 407288 Replaced my driver front bearing with another timken Attachment 407289 Attachment 407290 And somehow was standing at the jeep with the hood open when it tried to catch fire Attachment 407291 Attachment 407292 Attachment 407293 Attachment 407294 Messaged XJWonders whose swap this was and he was unsure why it had happened, but recommended an upgrade! I let the jeep sit in the driveway away from the house for about a week after this lol Attachment 407295 Attachment 407296 Tackled the passenger side ball joints with some new Yukons Attachment 407297 Also attempted and failed to remove the herculiner on my lower half. That **** is on there Attachment 407298 Attachment 407299 Attachment 407300 And for now, thats about it! Jeep goes to the shop on April 20th to see if a professional can get rid of this terrible death wobble Ive been having. Everyone keep your fingers crossed! With all the COVID-19 stuff going on, funds for the jeep have been put on way back burner. Unfortunately the LS will sit and all major upgrades will stop until I can get a job and some serious savings |
Been a while, so lets update:
I cut my losses and sold my LS build. It was more than I could handle money and knowledge wise, and like some others said in this thread, it was more of a headache than I anticipated going into it. Lots of folks sell the LS swap as a straight forward and potentially cheap modification. And I think it can be straightforward, but to make it cheap, you need to literally do no updating to the engine and do nothing to make it nice, which is not my MO. Plus we moved to northern Montana and I just wanted a clean start. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...6c624f5c1a.png Got some new shoes. The Wildpeak AT3s came widely recommended and I have definitely enjoyed them so far https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...33d439baf4.jpg Towed it from New Jersey all the way to Northern Montana https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...9a4984c03d.jpg Experienced a few hijinks on the way there. Google maps took us in a weird direction up a steep hill in the middle of north dakota. Uhaul started to get stuck so we needed to deploy the jeep to save the trailer. Uhaul made it up the hill without the jeep attached, and the jeep made light work of pulling the trailer up the snowy incline. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...7945f9f608.jpg |
The remainder of the trip proved to be troublesome with whiteout conditions. Ended up ditching the trailer outside of the badlands in north dakota and caravanning the uahul and jeep the rest of the 500+ miles with no problem
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...c01968ec3c.jpg Taken it to get some Christmas trees and its been doing great out here in Montana https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...1d467ab371.jpg And thats about where the updates stop. Haven't had made the time to do anything, until I realized I wasn't doing one of my favorite hobbies, so now I'm going to start to pick things back up. Both out of desire and necessity lol It was -22F a couple days ago, and I decided to start the jeep just to see if it would, and it did! And then the coolant came lol https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...31d7564975.jpg This is also around the time I realized my hood latch is frozen lol So the temperature is going to bump up in a couple days (to 20F) so hopefully can pop the hood and figure out what I'm going to need to fix. Luckily we have a really nice hobby shop on base here that I can get all this work on, and its only a few minutes away |
That looks like a long way off from where you want to be... It'll be interesting to see if it pulls the quarter panel straight or just pull through the holes...I wonder if some washers in the rear bumper holes will help give some alignment ??
Anyhow, you made a big move weather wise going out there !!! Good luck at the new location...:thumbup1: |
