Default Question on 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport - Hanging hose??

Forgive my ignorance, but hoping someone can help. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and today I noticed some hoses hanging under the car. One is metal and one is rubber. Are they supposed to be connected? Attached are a couple of pictures.
Thanks in advance and let me know if I can help clarify.

That looks like the lines for the trans that run through the radiator. where does the other end connect?

Correct, those are transmission cooler lines that are connected to a heat exchanger located inside radiator.
In the first picture I spy two rubber hoses (one has a hose clamp in an odd location). These hoses should lead to an auxiliary transmission cooler that would be mounted in front of radiator/AC condenser. This was added by a previous owner.
