Love this quote by BLUEXJ "As the wallet gets thinner the Jeep begins to look better."
So far so good, looks a lot better than before...

To celebrate, a whole bunch of stuff decided to break. It wasn't too long after I did my SYE that I started to get some vibes back. Needless to say I was pissed.
I noticed, however, that the vibes were worse when I was braking then when I was driving and almost non existent when I was accelerating.
That of coarse leads me to front wheel bearings. So, I do the side to side swerve test and find out it's the drivers side. Not that it mattered, because in the spirit of symetry, I replaced both.

So, out witht he old.

And in with the new.

Oooh shiny.

Now, I have no more vibes.
Hey man, what kind of vibes were you getting? can you explain it? Were your bearings clunking?

That jeep transformed right when you put those tires/wheels on. Sick looking!

No clunking, it was a constant sort of rumbling. I could feel it through the steering wheel and floor board. It got very loud, to the point that my passengers started to point it out.
I'm sure it was going on for a while before I noticed it, but the lack of a SYE helped to mask the issue.

Next on my list was to take care of the clunk that had developed from my home made quick discos.

Here is a picture of my original fail.

Anyone thinking of using clevis pins to make their disconnects, I strongly urge you to go a diffrent route.
They cannot put enough pressure on the joint to keep it from moving. Eventually, it will allow the pin to wallow out the hole. This creates a nice clunking when you take turns, or shift lanes, or get in or out of the jeep. Basically, it sucks.

First, I took the warrior products, endlink extensions off and set them up in a fancy, precise jig for drilling and cutting.

As luck would have it, the o.d. of the endlinks was the exact same i.d. of the steal tubing I had. So with just a little ginding with my dremel, and some paint I ended up with this.

And everything assembled.

I couldn't believe how much better the Jeep drove. It was night and day. No more slop in the handling and no more clunking.

Also, I have since replaced the pins you see in the last picture with proper locking pins. So, no more worries about those falling out.

Good job on the Disco's. Looks like everything works well.

I agree that the clevis pin setup sucks. Had that on my wrangler and all it did was clunk on every turn. I have the same warrior sway bar setup. Maybe i'll copy your idea. Hopefully it's not copyrighted

Go for it.
The key is to be as precise as possible when drilling the holes in the tubes. If you drill too big a hole, then the new pins will clunk as well. I actually drilled the holes for my pins to the exact diamater (1/4" IIRC) of the pins. Thanks to my not so perfect drill press, the holes have just enough extra space to allow me to easily remove the pins and re-install them and still have a nice quiet ride.

One thing I may be looking to do in the future is, drill out the old hole in the axle bracket and fit it with some sort of bushing or grommet. I'm affraid that the egged hole will eventually be the down fall, of even this new and improved system.
Plus this will give me an excuse to buy a step drill bit.

Thanks. They are much easier then the last setup to use. There were times when I would be lying in the mud on the edge of a trail, beating on the damn clevis pin, trying to get it to come loose. Never again will that happen.

Haha. I had a small chain with a mini d-ring on it for that very purpose. I would hook the d-ring to the clevis and yank on the chain. It popped right out, even with it flexed and with pressure on it.

I have not been able to get mine either in or out unless it is on level ground. Always considered that normal. Is it not???

That's normal. I just forget to take them out before i hit the trail and by that time, i'm on uneven ground.

Well, as some of you may have noticed, my jeep is in dire need of a recovery point. I had lucked out so far, but I have come close to needing a tug out of, or over an obstacle or two.
So, the next project was to get some tow hooks on the heep.
I went with C4X4 tow hooks. I have yet to find a tow hook bracket made better then theirs.

These things are solid.

Now, I apologize, I didn't get any pictures while I was working because I couldn't find my camera. All I have are after pics.

As you can see, I decided to take care of a couple other projects while I had the bumper off.
I re-located both horns, and the vacuum canister into the engine bay.
Trimmed and painted the front bumper.
Installed fog lights
And of coarse installed the C4X4 tow hooks.

Man, my tires look small now. Hmmm.

I'd like to see a writeup on relocating the vacuum canister and horns.. Looking good..I am planning on taking my bumpers off and painting them and installing new fox lights.. So a writeup on the canister and horns would rock even without pics..
