Prosonic's '99 Sport Build
This thread will document the build up and repairs of my 1999 Cherokee Sport.
I bought the Jeep used in the late, summer of 2006, and almost immediately caught the "bug". You know what I'm talking about.
My plans are ever evolving and growing. I don't know if or when it will be done, but I hope to have a capable and fun Jeep to drive when I am through.
Well, lets get this started. Here is a couple shots of my XJ in stock form, taken only a few weeks after I bought it.
It came with so many great features, like body damage.
That's the rear bumper in case you are wondering.
Well, I don't mind some bumps and bruises on my vehicles (especially jeeps), but I hate rust, with an unwaivering passion. So, that needed taken care of asap.
Some hammering, grinding, and sanding.
A bit of primer.
Add a dash of bedliner
And the final product.
Much better.

Next up, I had to take care of that sagging rear end. So, here comes a 2" lift.
I decided to go with:
-O.M.E. "light duty" (CS034RB) Leaf packs
-True 2" spacers
-Skyjacker Nitro shocks
-JKS Bpes
-Home brewed quick discos
-Extended Factory 4.1" rear bump stops
-Hockey puck front bump stops
-R.E. U-bolts
Rear first.
Old stuff.
New stuff.
Initially I gained 3-3.25" of lift from these springs.
They have since settled to just over 2"
Now to the front.
Old stuff (partially dismantled)
Spacers and bump stops in.
Front done and on the ground.

And of coarse my baby needed a new set of shoes.
I know Soft 8s are very over played, but I like the looks and couldn't beat the price.

Very nice start. We all know you, just like us, are now addicted, and much more will follow. As the wallet gets thinner the Jeep begins to look better.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Next on the to-do list, was an SYE. The vibes that developed after only 6 months of driving with a 2" lift were intense. I couldn't go over 45 without fearing for my driveline.
I went with:
-R.E. Hack-n-Tap
-Front d.s. out of a '96 Xj
-Precision part #627 (centering yoke)
-3 new u-joints (I'll remember the brand later)
Old stuff Vs new stuff.
Here's the output shaft after removing the stock drive shaft.
Marking the shaft for hacking.
Hacked.
Tapped and R.E. plate installed.
The two tap handles I snapped tapping the threads.
Everything put together.
No more vibes! Or so I thought.

Oops, forgot to mention that. They were origianly 30s, but are very old and worn. They came off my dad's old YJ. I'll be looking into new tires this spring, because I just don't trust the old rubber in my current set.
I'll probably be going to 31s, I've been considering Dunlop Mud Rovers, since their section width is a bit wider than most 31s (10.8 as opposed to 10.5) They are quite a bit lighter then most other companies, as well.

Now that I had some fun stuff out of the way it was time to celebrate. My jeep reached a major mile stone.
To celebrate, a whole bunch of stuff decided to break. It wasn't too long after I did my SYE that I started to get some vibes back. Needless to say I was pissed.
I noticed, however, that the vibes were worse when I was braking then when I was driving and almost non existent when I was accelerating.
That of coarse leads me to front wheel bearings. So, I do the side to side swerve test and find out it's the drivers side. Not that it mattered, because in the spirit of symetry, I replaced both.
So, out witht he old.
And in with the new.
Oooh shiny.
Now, I have no more vibes.

Next it was time to take care of those dull, yellow, worn out, stock head lights.
I had read mixed revues about the Autopal lights, but just couldn't pass up the deal.
I am glad to say that I am very happy with the results.
Here is a shot taken in my garage, with me standing between the lights. The autopal is on the left and the stock light is on the right.
Here is a shot of the Autopals at low beam.
And High beam.
I obviously need to tweak the aiming a bit, but it's pretty close. Either way, the lights are way better then stock.
Also, sorry for the cell phone picks. I couldn't find my camera at the time.
