Holy ****, what a day. Decided to adjust my power steering box to try and get rid of the slack in it. What a project that was. As soon as we started pulling it off it was issue after issue. Finally got it back on about 2 hours ago. Drove home on the highway and it feels so much more solid than before. Since money is a bit tight right now (saving for a big road trip, more on that later) the stock one will stay unless I run across a cheap used 99 Durango power steering box. I just hope this one stays strong.
Also took on a cool project making my own train horns. My buddy's brother gave me an 8 gallon air compressor for a case of beer so I said screw it, why not make one. I bought the instructions on eBay (someone posted it a while ago on here, thanks for that) from a guy who designs his own. Altogether it was about $25 for the horn parts and $20 for the hose. I made a 3" then decided to make a 4" instead. It's almost too loud. Ill keep itfor now, but won't use it all the time. It was more of just a fun cheap project. Ill get pics and vids up soon. The ones I took today didn't turn out that great.
Next on the list is a new header, spacers, and maybe a steering stabilizer bracket to make it more comfortable for my trip. Updates to come.

Just placed an order for some Brown Dog motor mounts, a steering stabilizer bracket (for the trip), and a couple of bottles of U-Pol to do the rear undercarriage hopefully next week. I have also decided to paint the lower part of my Jeep as well as the rear bumper caps and bumper. I'm still debating what I want to use for it since I want something with a smoother finish rather than the Raptor liner. I am going to call U-Pol tomorrow and ask about their Gravitex. Hopefully I'll be able to order an APN header early next week as well. Updates to come..

Ordered just about everything I needed this week. Brown dogs, steering stabilizer bracket, more UPol Raptor Liner, an APN header with replacement bolts, 1.5" Spidertrax spacers, and new sway bar bushings. Put the sway bar on yesterday and put the stabilizer back on today since I'm planning on doing some longer trips in the future. Figured if anything it would make a few thousand miles more comfortable.
Planning on doing the APN header and motor mounts tomorrow at the shop. After all of this I'm done for a while, except for bumpstops which I am currently looking into a way to get a huge polyurethane cylinder block to cut my own for cheaper.

Definitely. Mine aren't too bad but I figured it would be best to change them out while doing the header to help protect my investment. Hopefully tomorrow goes smoothly. I should have pics up later tomorrow night.

Header is out. Found 3 large cracks, 2 around the same exhaust tube. Looks like someone tried to fix it beforehand as well. On to pics..
Brown Dogs are going on next the putting the header on.

Hahahaha it was already on there otherwise it never would have had one.
Motor mounts went on last night, installing the new header and everything else today.

Great looking XJ, lots of similarities to what I'm planning.
Don't know if you've had the opportunity to test them out yet but I'd love to hear how durable the flat flares are under abuse. I love how they look and they've been getting solid reviews, but before I drop $400+ on a part if like to know they aren't going to shatter if I bump an obstacle with them. They are supposed to be a good bit more durable than the pocket style which also look great but I have not heard great things about them taking any kind of impact.
Again, really well done XJ.

Finally finished this header. I didn't take any other pics because I was pissed off most of the time and there isn't really much to see. Ended up having motor mount alignment issues. Called Brown Dog, excellent customer service. Ended up changing out my trans mount which was another project. My driver side mount is still off but I am going to drive it home from the shop here and check it out when I get home to see if it shifted correctly. If not then i think someone put a new mount on this thing and didn't line it up properly.
As for the exhaust, I had rubbing issues that I fixed with a little bit of grinding and movement of the intake. Since my bottom rear intake mounting tab was cracked (but not torn off completely) I ended up lifting the back end of the header up just a tiny bit so that it would clear the #6 exhaust tube but at the same time not throw off the alignment of the intake itself. Just started the truck and it seems to be all good. So much better now that I can actually hear my exhaust system rather than an annoying leak.
Spacers should be here today, might be able to get them on tomorrow.
Thanks. The flats are pretty durable, I could probably stand on the rear flares if I wanted to (the front's aren't as strong since my XJ was already trimmed higher than they recommend). I'd recommend them and the best deal I've seen so far is from Serious Off Road. If you want something extremely strong then look into Hooligan's steel flares. They are expensive but you get what you pay for.
