Sweet. How do you like the Napier flares and how are they holding up?

I like them allot. For the amount of trimming i have to clear 35's, i had to make some trimming adjustments to the flares to keep everything clean. But with a 3.5" offset on the front rims, they still provide coverage on a 12.5 wide tire. That was my main concern was tire coverage so i can actually see out the windows when things get sloppy. I ran the flat flare son my 99xj. i have the V2's on the 1990 xj, and i installed a set of V2's on another Xj for a friend. Cant say enough good things about them.

Makes me think about going a cowl intake just to get rid of the stock box. I never had an issue fording water with the stock box before but I like clearing engine bay space.

Having big feet, i like the open space to sit on the fender and put my feet where the airbox used to be when working on the top of engine.

Well a rod knock developed over last week. Of course right as I have full mountain plans set for the next 2 months. I snagged a friends old 4.2 out of his YJ. Will tear everything down and do a 4.5 poor man's stroker with some head work.

The donor 4.2

Head off the 4.2, cylinders and pistons all look good.

Bottom end of the 4.2, no excessive thrust bearing play. Rods, bearings all look ok.

What is all needed for the poor man's stroker? Will you run a 4.0 head?

Re-build kit(bearings, pistons, gaskets, oil pump), 4.2 Crank, 4.2 Rod's, 4.0 pistons, 4.0 head. basically its just an engine rebuild with a 4.2 crank and rods. as long as your cylnder walls and crank surfaces do not need machining, its a bolt in procedure. allot o folks go ahead and bore .20 over or .30 over and put a new Cam and timing set, valve job, and such in while it's apart. There are allot of variations that come in t play with compression ratio, square bore, and some other things that can be played with, but the poor man's 4.5 is by far the simplest. checkout jeepstrokers.com for tons of reading material.

I got everything torn apart and found out what the knocking culprit was. the short bolt on the oil pump had backed out of the block, and got thrown up into the #1 piston, breaking the skirt to chunks. Im lucky i got it the 10 miles home without throwing a rod through the block. Everything is at the machine shop to be hot tanked and checked for bearing score. All pending a clean bill of health on the cylinders and crank, it should be able to start assembling next week. Put an order in from Summit for the basics:
  • 24lb EV1 injectors from JHC on here
  • ZJ 136 amp alternator and Ebay brackets to relocate to the AC housing using the HO compressor bracket. (will need to wire in an external voltage regulator.
  • Adjustable FPR
  • new clutch kit from LUK(might as well replace while i have everything apart)
  • Ironmanfab engine mounts
  • Ebay HO Header(will check clearances with the Renix intake(cruiser says they fit!)
  • ARP mains, rod and head bolts
  • pilot bearing for the 4.2 crank with ax-15
  • Comp Cams SK68-232-4 with:
    • Mopar 5249464 springs, 4452032 retainers and 4452030 locks(my97 head has the triple groove retainers)
      • You cannot use the Complete Cam Kit PN K68-232-4, unless you machine the valve seats to accept the springs and get taller valves. The mopar springs will fit without machining.
