I tig'ed one side and it sucked...mig'ed the other and it went real smooth. It did burn through it a couple spots but that was in the rusty areas of the one side. I did just but the new steel up against the original. As for the bumper, I have plans to make a new one. For now I am just leaving the stock one as is. Hopefully making the new bumper next week.

Hope to see you out on the trail... Ryan and I get lonely being the only cabin crusier drivers with NIJA.

Haha! Yeah I bet! I was trying to get something done for recovery points before this weekends run but it's not going to happen since now I have to go to South Carolina for the week... At least it will give me the $$$ to take care of it next week!

Alright... Here are a couple pics of some of the progress. I got both of the front doors done. I have the old style hinges so that made it easy for me. I just scribed the location of the hinges on the doors and then un-bolted them. Then I cut the bottom part of the hinge off and shortened the pin so you don't have to lift the door as high to get it off. On the pass side they had the ds hinges but upside down so i just pressed the pins out and put them back in the proper way. Here is a after pic.

Then today while I was wandering around and harassing my mechanic at work I stumbled on to a nice 2x6 piece of steel. Seriously...I tripped over it! So to get my revenge I decided to make it into a front bumper. Without delay I had the old bumper off...

I relocated my horns a little and moved the vac ball into the engine compartment. I cut the 2x6 down to length and then stuck it up on a jack to start deciding on cuts to make.

You can see some of the lines but I am taking it to my shop tomorrow to do the rest of the cutting and welding. should have it done in the next few days. Until then...

This is how it sets!
Oh! And i'll be picking up a Ford 8.8 on Sunday! Good times!

hey man, cool build, being a profession fabricator by trade I really like stepping back and watching folks build their own rigs. I appreciate the simplicity and creativity. building products instead of one of a kind jeeps gets old.You have a cool start here. I just wanted to make sure you knew that the side bolts on the drivers side for the factory bumper are a part of the steering bracing for the XJ. Make sure you keep the necessary bolts so you can keep your steering box in the jeep and not on the side of the trail.

Thanks Andy! I did notice that and will be making my new mounts for the bumper to also double as good support for the steering and such. I have lifted a few different Jeeps and other trucks before but this is my first go at doing any fabrication along these lines. I have seen a lot of good ideas here and it's a great way to take my mind off of being un-employed...
