My rear springs have done pretty well off-road but they can't handle weight. Sag soo much when the Jeep i loaded up. So i'm going to be getting rustys springs since I can get it through work for cheaper. Our parts guy knows Rusty personally.

So you've convinced me to build a Dakota bastard pack, I like the way you did the clips too to allow for the leaves to move more

be forewarned - it's a LOT of work. I can't count the number of nights i spent cutting grinding, drilling, prepping, and painting the spring steel.

What are the full length spring liners? Graphite paint, because regular paint will rub off? (If this is further back in your thread just tell me to shut up and read)

I'm gonna be making a bastard pack (XJ/XJ) soon. I'd like to basically make it a "new" leaf pack.

Leaf spring liner - it's shaped like an "H" turned on it's side (although i cut off half the lip so it's a "U" shape. Basically a piece of thin plastic that goes between the leafs to allow them to slide over one another, resulting in a super flexy smooth riding pack. All springs have liners/pads at least at the tips - I just took it 1 step further.

The graphite paint is actually less durable than regular paint, but it's infused with dry graphite, making a super slippery surface for the contact surface between the liner and the leafs, as well has to shed off water and dirt that may get in.

Cool thanks. I'll have to remember that. Did you buy the stuff online or locally? I'm all for a smoother ride on my DD (the one the bastard pack is for).

I got it from Deaver Spring. They only sell it by the 100' roll, i used 1/4 of it and sold the rest.

Fine by me!! I don't mind getting my hands dirty, I just want my rear to work better, it's not terrible right now, but I know it can be better
