Not on mine I dont, where did you hear that? The ring gear is close to the same size as the stock one, the pinion is tiny tho so thats where the difference is really made up. I have a lock-right coming in for it too.

EDIT: and yeah it is haha but its not to bad. We got some set-up bearings at work so I dont have to press them on and off to measure and run patterns each time. I wont have to press them on until I am done.

Now for one who hasn't done much gearing yet but in the further 5.38s how are you going about that. Plz explain as far as set up bearings

Like I've had out together a couple 9 inches and know about backlash and tooth indexing but set up bearings is what I'm curious about

I've never done steeper gears on a ford 8.8, I did have to shave my ring gear on the chrysler for those 4.56's! But yeah, those setup bearings are nice. You can take off your old carrier bearings and hog them out a little if you want to go about it that way. so they sit but are easy to pull off. I'm going snow wheeling this sunday, I don't really know how thats gonna go, I think i'm just gonna go ***** out.

Yeah setup bearings are just old bearings hogged out. The D30 sucks to re-gear because its all shimmed so you take off the carrier bearings, install shims, set back up, measure. Setup bearings make it alot easier.

Just hog out the ones that came with your axle. Your install kit will come with new ones.

Read up as much as you can, you can never be over-educated on it..especially if it is a daily driver. As we were talking about above, hog out your old pinion and carrier bearings so they fit snug but dont require being pressed on and off. It is time consuming so be prepared to have your rig down for a day or 2.

no idea what you mean by hog out pinion and carrier bearings..

having a hard time finding a well informational thread on regearing. Seems everyone is just trying to make it seem harder than it is... only thing im worried about is things lining up and pressing the bearings on

Take a cone grinder and grind out the inside a bit so it slips on instead of presses on. Your new install kit will come with new bearings. Re-gearing is time consuming and takes a good eye to look at the patterns to see if theyre right.

It's actually just intimidating. Take your time. I did it in the cold, in a non heated garage. Worst Idea ever. I got the contact pattern perfect on my front first try. I believe I got the backlash a little loose. and the rear seems close. :/ guess we'll see! =D lol.

Went wheeling today. had a blast. really smashed down on her today. only carnage for me was that i ripped my clevis mount off. Pulled it straight through the frame. :/ looks like about time to really build up that front.

and here's my replacement bumper all mocked up. unfortunately I do not have a mandrel bender, and I did not take my time bending this. lol. I want it to have a sharper angle at the top vs a big hoop. and this is how it turned out. A little disappointed but oh well. hopefully this one doesn't get ripped off.
